First Step---Pre-due diligence

I would have to say that the biggest change since I have been in Costa Rica is the motivation behind people considering moving here. When I first came it seemed that people were DRAWN here-because of the beauty, people and weather. Now the prime motivator seems to be escapism. Anyone out there relate to that? That is not a problem but today it seems that it is more important than ever to make sure you do your homework. Now, for me there was a small part of wanting to leave the known and boring aspects I was living in but it was much more of a desire for adventure and when I came here for my first weekend it was love at first sight and I just knew in my heart I could do this! Here is what I suggest----don't move just because you want to LEAVE, that is a recipe for disaster! Take your time and envision what you really want for your life to be like here in Costa Rica and before your first trip try to get a grip on just WHAT you want your future to look like. Write down what you are looking for in these areas----What do I want my future to look like?---Family/Friends---Money/Finances---Recreation/Fun---Health/Diet /Exercise---Faith/Spiritual---Social/Cultural---Personal development. With the miracle of the internet today you can find out so much about your intended relocation choice that you may find---before you make any costly mistakes--that the place you were considering might be severely lacking in important personal areas. I have picked up a couple clients and as soon as I met them in the airport I knew this was not going to be a fun weekend!! I mean when someone starts complaining about people not speaking English to them you know they dropped the ball on doing their homework!
