It sucks being old

For the last 5 years I've always been the one "guiding"" my neighbor about the steps that he needed to take.
After getting his Temporary Residency for the first time he thought he was a Tico.
I was the one who told him when to renew his Residency which shocked him. He did.
Then since last year I've been telling him that he should apply for his Permanent Residency.
He never did. Finally he let it expire.
When we had the big storm few years ago I got an email from his sister because he had given her my email in case she wouldn't get any news from him.
Amazingly I was the only person in my complex who never lost the internet during that period.
So last year I contacted his sister asking her to let her niece (my neighbor's daughter) know about the new laws of Costa Rica since he has a Corporation.
I even suggested that since he doesn't rent his condo that maybe his daughter should assist him financially
with the dissolving of is Corporation since the condo is supposed to go to her son and her father didn't have the funds to cover that.
This way he wouldn't have to pay Corporation taxes and he wouldn't have to make monthly reports to Hacienda. I also informed them of the need to go to the bank and disclose the name of the shareholders and beneficiaries.
They didn't.
Nothing has been done at all.
Now his American Passport is about to expire and he is telling me that he doesn't want to renew it anymore.
So no Costa Rica Residency and no American Passport.
He says that he just paid to the lawyer to see if she can re-apply for his residency.
The reason for his fear in renewing his Passport has to do with the fact that he has not filed his taxes in several years.
My fear is that his pension will be suspended.
His daughter has never visited him even though she has lived in Costa Rica for 15 years.
To be honest, if he doesn't lose his condo and if he dies and his girlfriend gets it, I believe that she deserves it more than his own family (the girlfriend comes and goes)
Now he is telling me that he doesn't need his Passport because he can apply for citizenship here. I know that it takes 7 years but I think that you will always need to have a valid Passport.
I also doubt that he will pass any type of test in Spanish since he doesn't speak the language.
I just want to make an appeal to those who have old parents regardless of where they live to please remember them in their old age.
Now he is in danger of losing his condo and his pension.
Like I told him and his sister I've done all I could as a good neighbor.
There is nothing else I can do!
May God have mercy on him since his family doesn't.
His sister suspects that he may have Alzheimers (like his mother and sister) but he has never been to the doctor here in all these years even though he pays for Caja.
My impression is that he has given up!
