Important Message About Expat Exchange Forums

Expat Exchange community members:

There are a few items we need to address about activity on the forum.

Expat Exchange was created to be a place for people to explore international life and all of its rewards and challenges.

The period during the global pandemic created a variety of gray areas as expats debated the best and safest way to live and travel abroad, and the many factors that impacted their ability to make informed decisions about how to do so. However, many of those discussions have devolved into naked partisan vitriol, and there are times where the entire atmosphere of the forums has been severely impacted.

Expat Exchange is not, now nor was it ever meant to be, a venue for its members to air out their political beliefs and grievances.

For that reason, we are asking you to refrain from posting about topics not directly related to life abroad. This is especially true about politics. We have always strived to maintain a non-partisan environment that enables everyone to find and share valuable information about moving, living, working and retiring abroad. This is not easy, it is fraught with gray areas, and it can become a time consuming mess for the Expat Exchange team. Please remember we are a very small company!

Again, we are not taking a position about any political issues or controversies. We are trying to ensure a level of decorum that enables people to navigate life abroad and make it the best possible experience.

Please review the community rules and abide by them. We will be enforcing them and will suspend or ban accounts that continue to work against the level of civility we are working to maintain.

Please use the "Abuse" button if you see something that violates our guidelines.

As always, we greatly appreciate all of your many contributions to Expat Exchange. It is out of respect for everyone who shares their insights that we will continue to work to create the best possible environment for all you.
