Moving to Denmark from US as EU citizen

Hi,
Warning to any EU citizen who wants to move to Denmark with their Danish spouse from the US.

Everywhere the Danish government tell you that EU citizen can reside in Denmark - even one government site claims without a residence permit, I found out the hard way it is not so.

My wife is Italian (and US), I am Danish, both retired. She not only has to apply for residence - but even though we have been married for 36 years SHE has to prove she can financially support herself (their quote). They went as far as saying they will "evaluate" (their quote) her application which may take 3 months or more and the result is not known in any way.

So how does this go. We sell our house, put everything in storage - and then we don't even know if my wife has EU rights as an EU citizen. So we are on indefinite hold,

The Danish government officially supports EU citizens residing. However they are disingenuous liars. It is of course known that Denmark is a reluctant member of the EU.
