where the "ec" part stands for Ecuador.

It´s hard to get good maps of smaller towns in Ecuador, so I wouldn´t expect a GPS device to have great maps of small towns. However, you should be able to track your journey or record points of locations with the device. In Ecuador, it is hard to find GPS devices for sale (but Quito manages to have them).
