Although this does not apply to me at this time, it does apply to friends and family members who are in the process of relocating here and really needs firm clarification. There appears to be very different information being given by attorneys here on the requirements for in person residence during the first two years of a resident visa.
There is one well respected attorney in Quito that is telling her clients that they may come as go as they please during the first two years as long as they are never out of the country more than 90 days. On the other hand, there are several well respected attorneys in Quito that are saying the law does not allow you to be out of the country more than 90 days a year during the first two years (my attorney happens to be one of these and has provided me with a regulation that states that). Of course, this regulation could have been revised??? This is Ecuador. I think it would help if we could get as much clarification as possible from good attorneys country-wide.
