Cuenca Hotels or B&Bs

Hi,
Although I've never written here, I have read this blog for over six months and I truly appreciate everyone's contribution. I feel it's one of the most honest and believable ways to get factual, practical, down-to-earth and proven information. I remember that something along the line of what I'm looking for has been posted before, probably more than once but I cannot retrieve it in the archive blogs.

I'll be in Cuenca for 3-4 days in early November, before heading for the coast for a few weeks. This will be mostly a facts-finding mission before deciding which area of Ecuador I'll settle in to retire in a few years. So not much touristy stuff on the agenda this time around.

What I need at this point are names and contact points of a few BUDGET hotels/B&Bs basically only to crash in at night and possibly have breakfast the next morning, so that I can make timely reservations. There will be just my wife and I and since we'll spend the days (and possibly evenings) out and about Cuenca absorbing the town's culture and secrets, my main concern is a place that's safe, sort of quiet at night, within walking distance of the cultural and entertainment part of town and with shower, hot water, a comfortable bed and no-charge parking. Anyone with good (and hopefully tested) suggestions?

Then, I may need the same type of suggestions for the various coastal towns/villages from Salinas to Bahia.

Thank you very much for all your assistance. PW
