The Social Workers are coming ...

If you listen to the local radio stations you will know that starting this month there will be employees of the Social Security and Ministry of Health making the rounds.

They are specifically speaking to "cholo" workers -- our employadas and trabajadores -- to ascertain that they are properly set up with the system and are receiving legal wages.

They are also documenting for assistance those who have family members with disabilities and insuring that they are included with programs that are being instituted as part of the newly built Santa Elena Hospital.

Both Maria (my cook) and Francesca (my housekeeper) have had visits to their home.

One major problem has come up: I need to put together a document for both me and for our friend who gave her old furniture to these ladies. The social workers who have visited need confirmation that these are gifts and bonuses -- and not items they were able to purchase (which would demonstrate more income than they truly have.)
