12-IX Visa

I'm moving in about 5 weeks and am weighing the wisdom of getting my 6 month visa (preparatory to applying for my resident visa) in the U.S. as opposed to getting once in country.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the police report can be done in Ecuador and in fact someone who is a resident can actually vouch for good character or such. I may have misunderstood that. I still have many good contacts in Ecuador both business and personal from our previous residence ending in 1984.

I have had a resident visa in Ecuador in the past, so I don't know if that facilitates anything or not.

Also, I would think this would eliminate the translation requirement and cost related to documents prepared in English.

Who's got the goods on this?
