My wife and I will be relocating to the Salinas area in the next 3-6 months if all goes well. We were Bahia converts but the combination of Bahia Real Estate Tomfoolery and the repeated positiveness of Hector, Susan, et al about Salinas convinced us to go further South. We have read all 113 pages of previous conversation and still are unsure of the answer to the following situation: We applied for Pension Visas to the Ecuadorian Consulate in Atlanta and were advised that resident visas are only issued in Ecuador by the Ministry of Government. We were told we needed a Tourist 12-IX visa initially. One of the requirements of the 12-IX visa is that you need to supply a copy of a round trip ticket to Ecuador. As we are only going one way, how do we do this? How can we sign a 1 year lease or purchase an apartment on a 6 month visa? We assume that we apply for a resident visa in Ecuador upon securing a place to live. Problem here is that someone mentioned earlier that police in Ecuador won't issue a "Good Guy" report as required if you have been in country less than 2 years.
Can someone please advise a clear visa process for those of us trying to move to Ecuador?
Btw, the quality of information on this Ecuadorian expat site far exceeds those of other expat countries, imo.
