The subject of automobiles (for expats) in Ecuador seems conspicuously lacking in this forum (aside from importation). I hope it is because of a smooth seg-way from North America. I can't imagine you'd pry the steering wheel from the hands of any of us easily. So some questions for the expert panel assembled here.
1. Is the licensing easy? Moderately easy? or what?. Is the international good for the 3 month first visit?, longer?
2. Are rentals practical and affordable (for initial visit anyway)?
3. Since nobody recommends bringing a car from the north, are they affordable in Ecuador? is there a range of good used cars.
4. What about title and insurance?
5. Maintaining a car, are there affordable garages? Are parts available? Are expats DIY'ing?
