Terribly Apprehensive...Still!

I've been more of a reader than a writer on this forum, but I feel that I need to express my true feelings on the uncertainty and negativity on ALL the safety/crime issues which encompass Ecuador.
My wife and I were planning a trip in Dec. & Jan. to perform a serious home search near Cotaccachi, but we cannot get past the simple fact that we may be putting our lives and/or property in danger every instance. The fact is, looking over our shoulder, being in an extremely apprehensive/frightened state of mind, and being the victims of unforeseen circumstances is unacceptable. At this point in our lives, the negativity which we have gathered on this site, outweighs any and all the glorious gifts Ecuador has to offer. I just can't believe we're alone in our hesitant quest because of the crime and constant danger in most areas. Life is too precious to be overcome by warnings, threats, cautionary practices in an every day setting. In closing, we can't settle for a slice of heaven when the rest of the pie is full of unhealthy possibilities!
