coming to ecuador to look at property in and around salinas/ballentia

my wife and are coming to ecuador probably feb 2010. looking to retire in about 10 years. interested in buying a secure beachfront condo in the next year or two to use for vacation and retirement. we want to get a good feel of the life in ecuador and maybe look at a few properties. does anyone have any recomendations for a tour, where to stay? we will probably come down 2 or 3 times before we actually buy something depending on how things go.
