Guayaquil hostal or hotel

We will be leaving Ecuador next week, flying out of Guayaquil. When we came in, we had a reservation at the Howard Johnson. Good idea as we were very tired, but much too expensive to stay for the return trip. Can anyone recommend a safe, $20 - $30 for 2 people, place with access to the airport? Ila, I remember in a previous post (August or Sept.) you mentioned that you also stay in HOJO on arriival, but mentioned another you use when leaving.

We very much enjoyed our 90 day stay in Ecuador, are buying an apartment in Bahia, and will be back next year.
