Temporary Housing

I will be visiting Cuenca in March for about 4 weeks to search for housing for myself and my son. Id rather not stay in a hotel for the month, I can see that getting super expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on reasonable monthly rentals??? I cant see paying $1000 or more for the month when apts run $300 a month and thats all I am finding online!!!
Any suggestion would be appreciated!
