At least 35 travellers have been killed in Ecuador when their bus tumbled off the road and fell down a 150m (500ft) ravine, officials say. Some 25 more people were injured in the crash, and at least eight of the dead were reported to be children.

This crash happened at about 3:00 am today. Bus travel at night increases the likelyhood of injury or death. Recent studies have demonstrated that a great percentages of the buses in Ecuador have worn tires and brakes are not often maintained. Preliminary observation so far about this accident is that the weather (fog) may have played a role in the mishap.
