The reports of my death [often misquoted as "demise"] are greatly exaggerated - Mark Twain.
Yes...there has got to be something better to to do on the eve of Christmas Day than to post on this forum. However, this is as close to a break that I have enjoyed in 60+ days. I thought an update was in order.
We permanently moved to Salinas, Ecuador over 90 days ago. Permanent residency fully established. Everything to this point, exceeding our expectations, to some extent almost too much so. More specificity on that in future threads. Actually, the only thing that hasn't exceeded our expectations...yet (hopefully closing in on that in the next 30 days) is Internet service, which has matched expectations, but not exceeded them.
When I was last writing more prolifically, right before our departure, I noted that I might be off this forum for 45-60 days. As it turned out, it never materialized...at least not for the first 30 days or so...then bam! Just what I expected. Trying to deal with too many things to get up to relocation speed and my participation here suffered. Bound to happen, on and off, for the better part of 2011.
As such, now that I am checking in, I will offer items that I believe have true value, mostly (for now) from the perspective I know best - real estate. There will be a smattering of more general Expat info, but mostly real estate. The posts will appear under the heading: "Reality Check", because being on the ground daily offers a more precise perspective as to the subtle nuances of where misinformation and confusion reigns most supreme.
A Happy Holiday season to all. Best wishes for a New Year filled with whatever you value most.
