Bringing peanut butter and curry powder

We're arriving in Guayaquil in a week and will be coming in on tourist visas. We wanted to bring a jar of peanut butter and some curry spices ... I know that might seem ridiculous be we've been told those items are hard to find and we wanted to bring them for our friends there.

Do you think we'd have trouble if they were discovered in our checked luggage?

Last thing we want is hassles with customs at the airport.
