Quito to Bahia-Alternate Route

Hola Amigos,

Been following this forum for awhile and thought I should join. My wife and I came to Ecuador last year and bought a lot in Vista Pacifica developments near Jama. Been looking for retirement property for a few years and have visited Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico, etc trying to evaluate all. Fell in love with EC.

Question, last year we travelled down the mountain from Quito past Santigo de Dominigo and Carmen then went to the coast at Pedernales. This year we would like to try going to Carmen and following south along the chone rive to Bahia de Caraquez? Can anyone tell me the road conditions and is this a good alternate route to Bahia and the Canoa area.
