my second attempt to start a new topic - first ended up in wrong topic

new member - apologize if this topic has appeared a gazillion times. i am considering a move to an oceanfront house in the Cayo to Canoa area of Ecuador - i'll know the place when i see it.

it is my intention to do kayaking and hookah diving primariily from my residence beach. my newness or naivete comes in wondering if i need to live in a gated community or setting. in other words, if i settle on a single family detached house, do i need to fence it? does the individual beach make any difference? is my home safe? is my vehicle safe?
