Some may remember I had asked a question about taking the bus from Quito to Cuenca. I must say I am impressed with the number of replies I have received from this question. Too bad the answers were so concerning. Enough have said don't take the bus and no one is suggesting it is a good idea to rent a car, except that maybe it would be safer than the bus say some. From alll those replies I have decided that for my first visit I will fly both ways.
Which leads me to this. I have read how great, warm and friendly the cities of Cuenca and Quito are. But the answers to the bus question have made me wonder if I hsould be concerned about my personal safety in general when in Ecuador. To describe what I mean more specifically, we all know there is no such thing as a safe country. There is much crime in the US. But I feel very safe in the US, except for some places that should be obvious to anyone whether they live in the US or not. So my question is not about if Ecuador is safe. Again, no country is. But I am visiting with the idea of moving there. If I lived in Ecuador would I feel safe llike I do in the US?
