hi friends, i just got back from my second trip to Ecuador. both trips have been pretty cool. there are , however, some remarks i have to make:
1- Cuenca sucks! yep, it does. is overrated and grossly overpriced thanks in no short measure to our dear fellow americans inflating the local economy. traffic is nasty: to give you an idea the rush hour last for at least 3 hours and during the day driving there is not much fun either.
2- Lojas sucks too. the only redeeming part of the city is their public park which is truly nice, other than that is not really worthy driving all the way there.
3- Vilcabamba really sucks! first off, people there don't live longer than in other places. it has been found that the age of the elderly citizens there has been greatly exaggerated. all i saw there was a bunch of gringos smoking marihuana and living la vida loca like hippies from the 60's. Vilcabamba is good for your typical gringo who wants to isolate himself from the rest of the world and make no real contribution to his new place of residence(the way to go buddy!)
4- Quito is good to visit but not to live there. driving is a nightmare and very challenging to say the least. throughout the country the cities need to be cleaner, fix the roads a bit better, vehicles are too expensive etc, etc. and...
5- In the name of God in heaven, can anybody teach some manners to those
a-holes, the taxi drivers and bus drivers, to drive a bit more decently?
On a lighter note, i'm not going to denied that people are friendly and nice, ijust wonder for how long is this going to be so...
ah, by the way don't advised to you the west coast: too much crime and too many blacks like me there
see ya, Jorge
...phew, more comments later on ...
