Hospital in Bahia de Caraquez

Rosemary and I will be moving to Bahia next year and was wondering if anyone knew much about the local hospital. Is this the only health care provider in the area or do they have private hospitals? Is it recommended to purchase medical insurance or just pay as you go? Appreciate any advise anyone has to offer.
