We are leaving for our first visit to Ecuador tomorrow. We made some preliminary decisions about where and what three months ago. Countless hours of research on culture, transportation, accommodation, studying or refreshing Spanish, etc. and the resulting increasing knowledge have surprisingly not changed our initial plans. I have seen by other posts that this process is not new, nor without trepidation. I have to say that I was surprised by the broad spectrum of responses by those involved in real estate, and while a small number have truly shown a welcoming helpfulness, there is one individual and organization that has taken a great deal of the logistical problem solving for us, and has helped us feel incredibly welcome and secure in our ability to accomplish all we want while we are there, even if it means looking at the competition. Ron Steinhoff of Crucita homes has researched several different apartments, suites and houses for us to stay in while we are there, and as a result of his efforts we have eliminated the surprises of non-working elevators, lack of bedding or cooking essentials, and even cleanliness. He has booked our overnight stay in Quito for us in a very nice suite, and purchased our tickets to Manta and forwarded them to us, so that we won’t face a full flight problem. He has arranged our pick-up in Manta, and has found us a multi-lingual driver and car for the entire four week stay at our discretion, and found us accommodation in the fabulous Villa Balsamaragua in an incredibly beautiful home. His last phone call to me was to ask what our favorite beer and wine was. Incredible. For those contemplating their first visit, no matter to what area, I can only recommend as much research as you can find time for, and if your area of interest is mid-coast, Ron carries my highest recommendation. We are so looking forward to this trip.
