Here we are, now where do we go?

Hola,

My family and I have just arrived in Ecuador(June 8th) and are adjusting to life here in Bahia where my mothers family is from.

e have had heat sickness, runs and all, but are feeling much better now. It is dang hot down here. We are intending to travel and look for work in Cuenca. I am a Computer Engineer from Canada with experience in application development, Firmware, board design and the like. I can pretty much program anything given a goal, my books and a couple cervazs.

My family includes a couple civil engineers trained in the states who have told me that it is Cuenca or Quito that I should go and that my limit spanish will not hurt my employment as the tech industry down here is dominated by english.

I am wondering if any of you old hands have any knowledge of the industry in Cuenca or Quito. My family is great but even with the civil engineers, their eyes glaze over when I try to explain to them what it is that I do.
