Ecuadorian vice-Minister of Security, Xavier Berrezueta announced this morning, Wednesday July 20th that foreigners applying for Ecuador’s permanent visas will have to undergo criminal background checks. The vice-Minister says the new rule began today, as well as revisions of current visas. Also, Berrezueta announced foreigners marrying in Ecuador would need to stay in the country for at least 12 months and will no longer be able to marry under ‘a simple power.’ The vice-Minister added that companies who are sponsoring visas for foreign workers would have to pay a fee of $25,000.
