Rabies shots???

CDC is recommending rabies shots for people traveling to Ecuador and will be spending time outdoors. Is this overblown?
Really dont want to get this shot but would like to hear what people there think.
The Hep A & B, Typhoid, antimalaria, and Tdap are already more than I want!!!
