I am happy to report that I have finally found a first class retreat in a beautiful isolated area of Ecuador. My wife who is from Ecuador and I spent a wonderful time at this secluded and tranquil escape from the world with some of the most outstanding views of the Andes I have seen in over 30 years of travelling extensively in the region.
I often as a young person had images in my mind of a flickering fireplace and not a concern in the world of a lodge tucked high up in the Andes - I finally found it with the service to boot.
The owners of this hidden gem have brought their skills to this mountain lodge which they honed for years as owners of a high quality hotel in Otavalo.
My wife who is Ecuadorian knows outstanding food and I will say I cannot think of any establishment in Ecuador from 1 to 5 starts that can compete with their quality and creativity. After our first meal - I could not wait to see what was next. The first night the soup was tomato - and my wife will not eat tomato soup in the states. My wife was raving about the soup which owner Margaret has overseen the recipes and added some magic charm - I hope it was legal.
If you are living in Ecuador or looking to get away to a piece of heaven and solitude this is the place to go.
also - if you are thinking of moving to ecuador - take my advice and visit here - margaret and frank both american- will share their secrets of living in ecuador with you -
