Safe wifi in Quito & Cuenca???

My wife & I will be flying into Quito and then to Cuenca in September. I have a laptop with built in wifi , but am leery to use internet cafes to conduct banking transactions. Since we will only be in Ecuador for about a month, it makes no sense to try to sign up with an internet provider.

Does anyone have any idea how we can get a safe wifi connection? I can get an air card from the U.S., but that requires a 2 year contract.

I don't know if the wifi connection at the hotel we will be staying at is safe. And, I don't know if Quito and Cuenca have any wifi hot spots.

I would sincerely appreciate any help.
