Caution when dealing with "some" Ecuadorians and Gringos

Just a quick note to give a heads up to expats coming here to rent. How you deal with this info is up to you.

We are renting a house in the rurals outside of Cuenca. We got our contact info via a Gringo. He made many positive statements about the the house and the landlord who lives on the property. Most of what the Gringo passed on was false, some of it an outright lie. The landlord was great for the first 2 months, then he and she became invasive. Then we were lied to and suckered out of $20 for getting a carpet cleaned that we had a spill on. The carpet was never cleaned. He got a friend to write up a fake receipt to show to my daughter. We just discovered our high electric bill was not due to the electric heater but rather the landlord has his apartment on our meter. I guess that works good for him.

There are many other issues that we tried to ignore to be peaceable people.

Currently we have Ecuadorian friends attempting to assist us with this issue.

So this is just a note of caution, that there are seemingly nice Ecuadorians who will steal from you and lie to you and there are Gringos who will lie to you to get out of a 1 year lease.

This is just an FYI. Please don't let this post feed any fears you may have, just use it to help you be aware of possible realities here.
