Buying a motorcycle in Cuenca....Advice?

Hi :)
I have recently moved to Vilcabamba and plan on going to Cuenca to buy an Enduro or an aka..modified dirt bike in the next 2 weeks. I am a female rider who has just come to terms that I realistically cannot ship my BMW 650GS here..(too old and it sounds like a huge headache anyway) WAH!

Any advice on where to go or what to look out for? I refuse to put my a** on a Chinese bike, (I promised my mother I wouldn't), so I am looking for a Japanese dual sport, 200-250cc.... After seeing the prices, (OUCH!) I am looking for a slightly used model....safe and dependable being the most important criteria.

How difficult is it to find parts? Anything I should look out for?
Should I spend the time and look for sale by owner or look at used moto dealers? Any in particular I should check out?

Also.....How long does it take to get legal? Insurance, license, registration? What is the protocol here? I get mixed info when I ask around and few seem to follow the rules.......One of the joys of living here I guess. Less rules!

Is there any locals or well seasoned imports that can help direct me around town in my Quest for a bike when I get to Cuenca? It will be my first time there and I would like to find my bike within a few days.
