My father was a coffee addict, and I grew up the same way. We always had coffee made in a vaculator pot that made great coffee. Only now it is called a coffee siphon pot. I have one and I was not looking forward to trying to schlep it to Ecuador without breaking any of the glass parts. Coffee lovers rejoice, the problem has been solved. I discovered a new way to make coffee that makes even better coffee than a French press. It is called the AeroPress Coffee and Expresso Maker. It sells for about $32 at Amazon. It weighs about 2 lbs and is made of polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable. If you enjoy your espresso as I do, but don’t like the sludge at the bottom of the cup, this coffee maker is your salvation. You can make 4 cups of espresso, or 2 cups of American style coffee. There are many videos on UTube on how to use it. I have even discovered I can froth hot milk for cappuccino with my stick blender, but IKEA also sells a milk frother for $29 that I understand works great. Don't leave home without it.--if you like great coffee that is.
