As of late, the forum has slipped into another contentious funk. I surmise that it 'could be' the dissatisfaction of everyone everywhere, the presence of a couple of "wierdos" (but don't let that bother anyone, ha, ha !!!)...could be mercury in retrograde, could be too many bad atitudes due to the lack of sun, ha, ha!
I used to post under the name of Boncur and over 2 years ago and up, I made some informative posts on this forum--positive ones--informative ones. Others have posted also. What you have to do is treat the forum like a book....read a 'few chapters" every day.....there is SO much information back there...Susan has provided alot of information, Dana (Silverwater) also, I have, others have. Some of these posters are not around anymore.
But what happens, the people who live here and share alot, become 'jaded' after a few years of posting their souls, and then peoples' questions become more and more impossible and it seems that we are all good for a couple of scenarios, we cannot provide the whole world to folks who want everything answered right away to their satisfaction.
It is not an easy thing to do--relocate to a developing country on another continent that speaks another language and has a VERY different culture.....so don't expect things to be easy. Do your homework and research. There is a couple Books' worth on this forum if you spend the time to go back and read and read.....pass by the contentious, dysfunctional crap...you will find a couple of good gems of info.
If you see something interesting, be an "information hoarder" and put it into a folder for the future....make different subjects.
There are other sources also, a couple of Yahoos, some others, a facebook page.....all are different, and all seem to attract a different type of person and a different 'side' of the same person!
There are so many personal blogs out there, more than a hundred probably, written by people who already LIVE here now and are writing about it!
There are guidebooks, and many resources about Ecuador on line.
I highly recommend that people purchase a good book, "Culture Shock, Ecuador! (A Survival Guide to Customs and Etiquette), by Mr. Nicholas Crowder. I have been recommending it for years and everyone who moves here seems to have a copy! Published by Marshall Cavendish. It's an invaluable start if you are considering Ecuador.
ALSO for a wealth of Current South American News, check out the
http://latinamericacurrentevents.com/
website for a rolling menu of news every single morning. This man has other sites, Interviews with Authors, and other informative South American and Ecuadorian sites....he is a wealth of knowledge, that Mr. Crowder!
He also is the author of FREE Spanish Word of the Day, with live pronunciation and much more! Subscribe!
Lots and lots of information out there on Ecuador! We, the regulars who live here, are happy to help with specific things, especially when we have had first hand experience with it. We can recommend things. Others also who do not live here yet can recommend and the forum could be a very nice place to visit! ....a sort of online 'marketplace.'
Good luck to everyone who wishes to relocate and the piece of advice that I will repeat and repeat is....
COME HERE and visit Ecuador! See if it is a 'fit' for you...see the coast, the Andes Mts., the other places---visit the Gringo Haunts and speak with others who are living here or thinking about it while visiting...give it a try and it may be for you and it may not.
