VISA HELP PLEASE !!

First let me appologize. I know this isn't a "new" topic, but I really need some guidance. I/we want to get a 6 month visa (12-9 I think). I have spoken with the consul general in Boston, my nearest city, and was told what I need, however, it doesn't seem to match what I read on the forum. I was told

6 months left on Passport ( no prob)

2 pics. ( no prob)

Police record (no prob)

Copy of plane tickets ( no prob)

Income statement ( may be a prob)

NOTHING is Spanish, I asked specifically. No notary, staigh forms.

INCOME howevrer may be an issue. We are not married right now and she doesn't qualify for SS so we are relying on mine which would be adequate IF we were married, and we're working on it, but not done yet and we ahve to get moving. We are arriving in late May.

Do we have to be married for only MY SS to qualify OR does she have to qualify on her own ??

My cost is $230/person, but this site keeps saying $330/person. (I got $230 from consul general).

I'm really confused so any help someone knowledgeable can offer will be GREATLY appreciated.

Sorry to be so long but the clock is ticking and I'm not getting it.
