Bribes in Ecuador

I have read several posts that suggest simply offering money determines who is guilty or innocent in a crime. I even read a post about someone's dog being lost that involved them having to pay for the police to hop a fence to retrieve it.

Is it really that easy down there? Toss a guy $100 bucks and do whatever the hell you want to?

I am a fan of the rule of law and keeping people who behave like animals in check. I may need to rethink Ecuador if all it takes is a little cash to cover up a crime. It's one thing when giving a guy a few bucks to get out of a speeding ticket. It's another when a few dollars gets someone out of having a dead hooker in the trunk.

From some of the posts I have read, it sounds like there is no real law at all. Goes to the highest bidder. Not that I am above paying a cop to lean my way, but if this is how Ecuador delivers justice, I have to wonder a bit.
