Mindo Magic, less gringos, more birds

8 years ago....I researched Cuenca, but ultimately decided to relocate to Honduras in the lush and wondrous rainforest. It has been wonderful, but after 7 years...decided we needed a cooler climate.

One year ago...we bought a lovely wood "lodge" on 5 acres in the cloud forest 2 hours west of Quito near the lovely little village of Mindo.

We are simply thrilled with our new location. No human noises, cars can be heard on our property, dozens of exotic birds and mammals visit us every day, surrounded by forests, excellent air quality, amazing climate (eternal spring) BIG nature, but Mindo has a bevvy of restaurants, cafes, and plenty of social time with the few expats that live there and more importantly....ECUADORIANS. lovely, charming, helpful people. We have made some charming friends as our spanish continues to improve.

We moved away from the states to experience a different culture. Why do gringos have to move where there are lot's of other gringos? Boring. Be adventurous....branch out....grow some brain cells. Be daring. The rewards are huge.
