Confessions of a International Living subscriber

I have subscribed to IL for 5 years and will do so for at least 5 more. I have not responded to post putting them down for several reasons.

1 I have not made my trip to Ecuador yet for family reasons and did not feel I had a voice.

2 Laziness.

I have read every article for 5 years, some more than once. Dan and Susan write well, are very interesting. I have never read an article written by them that suggested you could live in Ecuador for 600.00 dollars a month. I followed their purchase of the condo in Ecuador, followed the building of their home in Merida Mexico, never could you believe you could live like they planned on a 1,000.00 dollar budget. The article I read a few years ago written by the couple who claim to live in ( I believe Quito ) on 600.00 a month convinced me I would not consider that life style. Reading IL has given me a lot of pleasure, helped me to consider other places to live and ultimately lead me this this forum. Why would anyone read one magazine, sell all their belongs and move to some place they know nothing about. I feel they have problems that cannot be solved by well intentioned people on this site. I have always felt the name Owners Manual was just that, a name not to imply that you were going to own Ecuador, once again, anyone who would think that is beyond help by this forum. I have the Mexico, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Brazil and Ecuador 'Owners Manuel", enjoyed them all and do not remember any of them suggesting you sell everything, pack up and move.
My wife and I had original plans to move to Mexico, we were going to drop by Merida and try to catch Dan playing guitar on jaz night, maybe we can catch up with him and Susan in Ecuador on the way to see Margaret. When I make the trip I plan to stay with Susan, Will, Margaret and if the offer still stands my friend Kenny Merena. If the trip helps me feel comfortable about a move, I will put everything in Dana' very capable hands and follow her instructions.
Lets give Dan a little respect on this forum, you should have noticed his replies to people being a bit ugly give them nothing but respect.
Cannot wait to meet all you people, it will happpen.

Thanks for listening.
