Christmas at the Olon Oprhanage

First: Good News!

As many of you know the Orphanage had lost its government funding for 3 months due to red tape -- and the Gringo community pulled together and contributions from near and far along with raffles and bingos and other fundraisers came through for the kids -- no one went hungry and no kids were turned away. We are very pleased to let you know that as of today, December first, funding has been restored!

With that great news, we are planning to have our second annual Christmas Party on Christmas Eve at the orphanage.

Babs Dearmond has graciously agreed to oversee our efforts to provide 1 toy for each of the 61 kids. We are looking to keep the price of the toys in the $15.00 range so each child gets a toy in the same price range.

Hopefully all of you will be as generous as you were last year and provide a gift or donation for 1 or more of the children so they all will have a present to open this year. We have been informed that Santa Claus (Papa Noel) will be there to pass out the presents!

Babs has agreed to provide her condo as "North Pole Central" so those participating that prefer to purchase a gift or gifts can drop them off a Bab's condo in Salinas -- Contact me for the location.

If you are purchasing a gift, please have them gift wrapped with a name tag with the child's FULL NAME securely attached so Papa Noel will be able to give the right gift to each child.

For those purchasing gifts, please get them to Babs no later than Monday 12/17

Bab's has the master list with the full names and ages of all the children so you can pick a child to purchase a gift for. With Christmas just around the corner, please contact Babs asap so we can get all the gifts and cash donations to her in a timely manner.

Those people who would prefer to make a cash donation can contact Babs to arrange to do so.

As always donations for any amount can be made for the kids through PayPal at:
[email protected]

Babs has created a receipt book,so be sure to get a receipt for either your cash or toy donation. We plan also to make available a donation spreadsheet early January for all of those who have so generously contributed to this cause..

With the cash donations, and Paypal Peggy, Anita ,Babs and some other ladies will purchase the gifts for the remaining kids.

Again this year, Hostal Aqui will provide a turkey dinner for the children's Christmas party.

The kids get to have the traditional Christmas Eve Family dinner with their Esperanza family -- and it means more to them to be a part of a family than I can put into words...

Everyone who attend the Christmas Party last year can tell you how much these delightful children appreciated the gifts they received and they enjoyed just as much having so many people from our expat community to share Christmas with them. Life has not been kind to these children and they thrive on the love and attention we give to them at Christmas and other times of the year..

Drop me a message via PM or to my email account directly for Bab's contact information and on behalf of the kids thank you!
