Delta Airlines - Atlanta to Quito

My daughter came from Seattle to visit us over the Christmas holidays, she had just 10 days here. She was in Ecuador for only about 22 hours, when she became ill. At 3:00 am we ended up taking her to Monte Sinai Hospital here in Cuenca. She spent 5 nights and 4 days there, and was released just before Christmas. They diagnosed her as having a very nasty strain of salmonella food poisoning. Calculating the time between her eating the bad food and when she became sick, we are 99% sure it was a salad she was served on the Atlanta to Quito flight on Delta Flight 673. My wife has been a working as an RN for about 40 yrs, tells me that the hospital ended up using some 'big guns' as far as antibiotics she was given. I have to say the Monte Sinai did a wonderful job and she is feeling much better, although she is still on oral medications for it. She was told if she had not been as healthy and young (29 yrs), she may have not made it. She told me about an elderly passenger sitting next to her on the flight who was in his 80's and is very concerned about him since he ordered the same salad. I don't know what a hospital stay like that would have cost in the US, but I'm sure it would be much more than the $1200 it cost us. I know for a fact our daughter will not eat anything that Delta Airlines serves.
