Tick fever in dogs & Guayaquil vet clinic

Just want to provide more information about the great services from the vet in Guayaquil (Dr. Bravo and the Clinica Veterinaria Guayaquil). Christmas day our dog Ike became extremely lethargic and would not eat (his favorite activity is eating). The next day we made the 6-hour round-trip to Guayaquil. Dr. Bravo gave Ike a complete exam and took a blood sample. Within a few hours they had a complete lab report, including microscopic observations of the blood sample (which indicated he had a blood parasite called Babesia or tick-fever). Not only were they able to make a definitive diagnosis, but he had enough experience to know the best treatment with the least side effects. We worked with the vet in Libertad (El Pibe) for additional treatments, etc., since they are closer to our home. The main point is that if you live in the coastal SW and need competent vet care with on-site lab facilities, then you should seriously consider the clinic in Guayaquil. They are also willing to work with a vet that is close to your home if the pet needs additional treatments or care. Oh yeah, I think the cost was ~$100 (or maybe less) for everything they did. That is actually pretty cheap. The good news is that Ike’s check-up showed that he is now free of the parasite and his organ functions are back to normal. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information about the disease and/or the vet clinic. Rebecca
