Doing My Research

I've been researching for over 2 years on where in the world I want to retire, and have pretty well narrowed it down to Ecuador. I have a very limited budget, so Ecuador came out tops in that category. My Spanish is rusty, but I was pretty well fluent about 30 years ago, and I've been practicing with Spanish speakers here in south central Texas. My only problem now is defining exactly where in Ecuador I want to settle. I know I should take the requisite preliminary trip first, but with my limited funds, I think I can do well to chooose a place and just "come on down". I am a very adaptable person when it comes to culture. The most difficult problem I have in adapting is to weather. Originally born in Hawaii, and spent most of my life within a few miles of the beach in Southern Calif. My internal thermostat seems to be set for comfort at between 75 and 85 degrees with not a lot of humidity. My time here in Texas has been physically miserable about 8 months out of every year due to the heat and humidity. I really miss my Pacific ocean, but I also enjoy the mountains. I naturally gravitate to beach areas, but really hate it being over about 85 degrees for more than a few days at a time. My poor arthritic joints hate the damp of lots of rain, so I'm a little sceptical of the mountains. So, for those of you living in, say Cuenca, what can you tell me about the rain, the damp and the mold problems I have read about? And for those of you who live on the beaches of southern Ecuador, how hot does it really get? Will I have to endure weeks of 90 degree or more days? Thanks in advance for whatever advice you can offer! Can't wait to pack and go!
