Taking money out of Ecuador

Hi there,

I have been living in Ecuador for the last year with a 9-II investment visa but things haven't worked out for me and I plan to return to the UK.

My question is this:-

Are there any limits on the amount of cash that can be taken out of the country carrying it by person through the airport?

I am aware that there is a hefty 5% tax for international bank transfers and seeing as my investment is significant I would like to limit the amount of costs by carrying as much cash as possible through the airport.

If anyone can give me a heads up on this it would be greatly appreciated.
