Dog TICKS in Vilcabamba

A friend of mine was just down from Cuenca. She would like to move to Vilcabamba but is concerned about the ticks that seem rampant.

Well, not just seem, they are rampant.

People I know will take an hour a day to pick these bastardos off free range dogs.

another example of catch and release if you are a true animal lover and put the tick back in its environment. Just kidding....I think.

The clincher is that now (back in Cuenca) her dog has tested positive for a disease for which the tick is vector. A serious infection I understand.

My friend will NOT use the harsh, industrial grade, chemicals some recommend for this problem. She has, in desperation, shaved the dog however,

Cuenca just couldn't support the tick population clinging to the tall grass here in Vilcabamba.

In the city of four rivers this dog lives way up a gringo tower. Maybe Fido wasn't cut out for the campo.

just goes to show, if it isn't one thing then it will be another.
