Lesson 52: If you find a dead body in Ecuador

In our continuing efforts to tell you What to do IF:

Lesson 52... What to do if you find a dead body in Ecuador???

Do not touch it, move it, or in any way disturb the crime scene, apartment, car, area...remove yourself and contact the Policia immediately.

Do not pass go...Do not collect $200 ...Do not collect ANYTHING, TOUCH ANYTHING, ...

...or you will go directly to Jail.

This is what happened this weekend in Salinas when a well known "concierge" was called to a clients apartment to enter and discover why water was leaking to the apartment(condo) below.

Upon entering the apartment water was hear running and overflowing the bathtub, entering the bathroom the concierge found the apartment's tenant, a gringo, deceased in the bathtub...

Rather than leaving immediately, the concierge went through to get the passport and private papers of the deceased and contacted the rental agents.

All three were taken into police custody for tampering with a crime scene and it was some time before all were released this evening Sunday with orders to appear before the court on Tuesday.

IF YOU COME UPON A CRIME SCENE... LEAVE AND DIAL 911 OR FLAG DOWN A COP CAR. TOUCH NOTHING, You may be asked for your fingerprints to confirm that you have touched nothing. This is standard procedure. Remember you do not have the same rights as in the USA. If necessary request to contact the US Consulate for legal assistance to preserve your rights.
