short notice visit

It is a spur of the moment thing, I leave tomorrow to come to Cuenca. I plan on being there anywhere from 30 to the 90 days allowed. I have been doing the best at research I can (I have had multiple concussions in the military so ready can be painful at times). I could use a lot of help in a short amount of time.

is there any expats there I can link up with for help/guidance when I arrive on the 4th? I just need help getting a place to stay, then after that I can figure it out as I go. I don't have my return flight picked out yet, as all I know is I will be there atleast 30 days, if not closer to the 90 allowed.

obviously since its short notice trip, I wont have the background checks needed to extend/change my visa, is there anyway to get to stay long than the 90 days without having to have the criminal background check? I got the funds to stay longer, money isn't an issue, as it should be obvious with this being a short notice trip.

I read that most all the hostels take only cash, any places that take credit card? any safe ATMs to use to withdraw money?

I am retired from the military (army) and military retirees I can link up with?
