time to visit?

I was wondering if the ex-pats here could offer an opinion on when the best time of year would be to visit. My wife and I are planning on a trip this next year and had originally thought we would come down in January/February (deke out on some Canadian winter). However, maybe that is a rainier time of year in some if not most places. I was wondering what a visit in May would be like? Have the rains stopped by then? From one link I have for Ecuadorian weather it seems temperatures are still warm on the coast and the precipitation lower in most areas around that time. Does that seem right to the ex-pats here? The draw for us coming down in May is that it would be our 20th anniversary (May 1). The drawback is we would be stuck here for the whole winter – but we will have to spend most the winter here no matter what we do. Thoughts?
