Gated Beach communities

Hi We will be looking at beach communities when we're down. I have an acquaintance who bought into Las Olas. I know all the negatives that people have said about that community but I also see they are finally starting to get the houses built and the infrastructure done. Thinking we may want to be closer to a larger city since medical care is an issue for my significant other. I am hoping to (at first) spend the winter months on the beach and part of the year back in the states with the possibility of renting out our place when we're not there. Has anyone seen or heard good/bad or indifferent about Ciudad Del Mar/Costa Blanca outside of Manta? It looks pretty and I hope to swing by when we're down but I haven't seen much on forums. Are there any other communities that anyone can list? Aside from good medical care I must have high speed internet so I can work (remotely). Would prefer a house or town house with a water view. Other than that I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.
