Our trip to Ecuador

Hi all. Wednesday my wife and I are taking our first trip to Ecuador. We are basically seeing three areas in a very short trip. I know many of you will say it is too short and I will agree with you so don't.

We fly into Guayaquil on Wednesday afternoon and spend the night at the Wyndham. The following day our guide will take us to El Cajas in route to Cuenca where we will stay until Monday. Then we travel to Loja touring that area for a couple of days when we will fly back to Guayaquil and one day visiting the fishing village of Playas. On the following day we travel back home. As short as it is I have it filled with activities but not so much that we are running from place to place. Ecuador is a slower pace and we want to take advantage of that slower pace.

In explanation of why it is so short I set this up earlier this year not knowing if my wife would be retired so I set it up as a vacation. Since we are both retired now it is no longer a vacation trip but as I had hoped a short visit to see how many of you expats live and where you live.

I would like some ideas for Sunday in Cuenca as that is one of our days of leisure and not with a guide. It would be nice to probably just stroll the downtown area and find a English friendly place to eat. Neither of us speak Spanish though I am sure we can muddle through it in a pinch.

I also have a good portion of a day Wednesday in Loja to fill. It would be nice if there were a market to visit and another English friendly meal before I head to Loja airport and a flight back to Guayaquil.
