New Member - Looking for Housing/Friends

Hello everyone! I’m an occupational therapy student (MOT) from the USA, and I will be completing my clinical rotations at a pediatric clinic in Ibarra from May – August of 2018.

I hope to be able to experience the local culture as much as possible, and I’m very interested in living with a local family while there. I’m wondering if anybody here knows how I would go about finding a family that would take me in? There is student housing available for the organization I will be working with, but it is full during the time I will be there, and I’d much rather be more immersed in the culture.

A little more on me:

I’m 22 years old. I’m engaged to my best friend who shares my love of travelling and exploring the outdoors. Traveling always has, and always will be a passion of mine. I have an endless curiosity for the vast and unique cultures in our world. Through travel, I am able to share new perspectives with those I meet and am challenged to reflect upon my own ideas and opinions. I have been fortunate enough to live in a rural village in northern Vietnam, live on an island off of Thailand, and travel throughout Nepal and India. I’m beyond excited for this opportunity to continue my travels in Ecuador.

As a native Oregonian, the outdoors is a significant part of my identity. I balance my professional life with sports such as rock climbing, backpacking, and cycling. Along with traveling, these sports fuel my desire for adventure. A few aspirations of mine are to thru-hike the PCT, tour the continental divide on a mountain bike, and summit Mt. Rainier.
I’ll be completing my masters in occupational therapy after I finish clinical rotations, and I have a particular interest in social justice and working internationally with marginalized populations. I would love to find others with any experience or knowledge in this realm.

I greatly appreciate any advice/resources/help that anyone might have about finding housing! I’d also love to learn more about others living in the area, or anyone who has similar interests ? Thanks
