I'm confused...

I have been following this site for several years and having finally visited last spring, I fell in love with the country and the people, I have decided that I will eventually be moving to Ecuador but it will be later this year before I am free to leave here. My plan is to spend 6 months there and 6 months here (in the US) until I decide where I want to settle. I'm so torn that I know it will take a few more trips to decide. I was just feeling confident that I understood my parameters, but with the new laws, I am totally lost.
Here's my questions -
1, As the insurance I have here will not cover me there, what kind of health insurance will I have to purchase in order to stay for 6 months? Must it be purchased prior to my visit? Any suggestions?
2. Will I be able to make several visits as I had planned without establishing residency?
3. If I invest in property, will that eliminate the need for the time restrictions and give me permanent residency? Is that investment still $25000?
I would appreciate any answers you can give.
